Carrier ‘drops in’ roof-top replacement for Tesco

Carrier Air Conditioning provide UK Chillers, Bms System, heating controllers and aircon units

It’s not just refrigerant that is replaced with ‘drop-ins’ these days. Thanks to Carrier’s latest ‘roof-top’ units it is also complete chillers. Several Tesco stores across the south of England have benefited from this time and cost saving service.

Rooftop packaged air conditioning was a popular space cooling solution throughout the UK for many years, especially in the retail sector, but now units operating with R22 need to be replaced as the EU 2037-2000 restrictions on its availability begin to bite and no new R22 will be available from 2010. Perhaps even more importantly given energy-monitoring trends much of the equipment can also now be considered time-served and in need of replacement by more efficient redesigned units that have energy-saving controls built into them.

Carrier’s latest range offers just such benefits. It features an economizer and timer controls. Gas-fired units are also available. All of Carrier’s new units can be made to fit exactly into the spaces occupied by the units they are replacing. This means no additional cost for new ductwork or roof curbs. Most importantly, it means that there is little or no loss of store uptime as the installations can usually be scheduled to take place after Sunday closing and are completed before opening on Monday morning. This is a real money-saver.

The Carrier Rooftop Packaged unit range covers the nominal capacities 6.9-150 kW cooling and 7.0-147.4 kW heating. All these Carrier systems have been specifically designed to operate with the environmentally acceptable refrigerant R407C. They have also been constructed from stronger more weather-resistant materials than has traditionally been the case. The heat exchangers have high levels of corrosion and UV protection.

The units incorporate Carrier’s Flying Bird II two-speed fans. These are made of a composite recyclable material and employ a multi-blade design and rotating shroud, as used in the aeronautical industry. They are exceptionally quiet and do not generate low-frequency noise. At part load or low outdoor temperatures the fan automatically switches to low speed.
