LEATHERHEAD, United Kingdom, June 2010 — Carrier Corp. has launched an innovative new service in the UK which enables customers to test fan coil equipment prior to residential or commercial installation by building an exact replica in a laboratory. Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) and the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, improves the world around us through engineered innovation and environmental stewardship.
Based near Lyon in France, Carrier’s demonstration suite allows the company to build a full size model of a proposed project, including room size, furniture, and window configurations. Carrier can then perform tests for customers with outside temperatures ranging from -20ºC to 40ºC, thus ensuring that Carrier fan coils meet required design performances.
Claire Kruszka, fan coil product engineer stated, “This exclusive service offers peace of mind to all involved in these major projects by recreating the final environment of the customer’s installation. From hotel rooms to offices and from residential homes to ships’ cabins, the suite allows the testing of the air conditioning system under actual operating conditions.”
Tests in the laboratory include all parameters influencing the final comfort solution: sound, thermal, and air distribution. Such tests also allow system configuration refining and the selection of the most efficient configuration through energy consumption measurements. Comfort tests are realised according to the ISO7730 standard, enabling designers and consultants to optimise the end result.
Claire Kruszka added, “The Fan Coil Testing Laboratory is a unique service in Europe. The fact that major projects can now be tested under actual conditions is a superb service for our customers and a further example of how Carrier remains a world leader through innovation.”
Carrier offers a comprehensive range of fan coils to cover a wide variety of applications. Options include floor mounted, high wall, ceiling cassette, false ceiling, corridor or plant rooms.
The 42EM Atmosphera, for example, is a compact ducted unit with a low height of 225 mm and extra low noise level; this unit offers a cooling capacity range from 1.3kW to 7.3kW and a heating range capacity from 1.5kW to 8.6 kW. The 42EM is supplied in two versions— the compact standard unit which offers spigots at return and supply and the modular flexible unit which accommodates a wide choice of spigot configurations; both are available either with traditional multi-speed AC motor or brushless EC motor.
The 42GW 4-way ceiling cassette is designed to be an economical and reliable application. The all-in-one design increases flexibility, and the attractive air inlet grille blends in with the decor. These units deliver air flows from 100 to 470 l/s, cooling capacities ranges from 1.5kW to 11 kW and heating capacities from 2kW to 14 kW.
The 42N low-wall units are available in two models— concealed units which are inconspicuous within the existing room interior or cabinet units in a simple casing. These units cover cooling capacities from 1.0 kW to 6.5 kW and heating capacities from 1.0 kW to 9.0 kW.
