Carrier Celebrates Two Decades of ISO 9001 Certification at Montluel factory

MONTLUEL, France – 4th March 2009 – Carrier Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), recently celebrated 20 years of ISO 9001 certification for its factory in Montluel near Lyon, France. With more than 500 employees, the factory was one of the first industrial sites in France to obtain the ISO 9001 certification in 1988. The certification was achieved in partnership with Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), a member of the Lloyd’s Register Group, a global leader in company auditing and certification.

This certification confirms that Carrier’s Quality Management System (QMS) meets ISO 9001 standards. “Over the years, certification has evolved from a system that simply complies with the requirements to a system that encourages process enhancement with the objective of improving efficiency,” explains Joël Mollard, coordinator, Quality Systems and Continued Improvement, Carrier Montluel.

The result led the company to bring its continuous operational improvement system to a new level in line with the ISO 9001 QMS. The project, launched in 2007, will be finalized by mid-2009 and result in more efficient and consistent working methods.

This alignment will also help with the factory’s 2009 application for the recently published new version of ISO 9001. “Quality management systems are a vital part of our business and help improve customer satisfaction,” said Hervé Fontenille, manager, Continuous Operational Improvement, Carrier Montluel. “Our initial certification two decades ago helped unite our employees around a common goal. Every staff member feels involved and motivated by the success of the certification project and the continued improvement process,” added Fontenille.
