Dr Willis Haviland Carrier was the original "Father of Cool". He invented the modern day air conditioning system over 105 years ago.

This year marks the 109th anniversary of the invention of modern air conditioning by Dr. Willis H. Carrier, inventor and founder of Carrier Corp. On July 17, 1902 in the midst of a steamy summer, Carrier developed and later patented the first modern system to provide man-made control over temperature, humidity, ventilation and indoor air. From there, his innovation created an industry dedicated to making the world a cooler place to live, work and play. This year marks the 109th anniversary of the invention of modern air conditioning by Dr. Willis H. Carrier, inventor and founder of Carrier Corp. Innovation

Carrier pushes the performance of some Infinity models to 21 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), saving consumers more than half the energy some previous products required.

INNOVATION

Carrier introduces its first product line of high efficiency residential air conditioners and heat pumps using the environmentally sound, non-ozone-depleting Puron® refrigerant.

Carrier establishes first of several joint ventures in China.

UTC acquires Carrier, the world’s largest manufacturer of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Event

Carrier installs ground-based environmental control systems for the Apollo-Saturn V moon program.

Award

Carrier invents a system for air conditioning skyscrapers.

Carrier develops a new coolant and centrifugal refrigerating machine, enabling the cooling of public space.
